Summary
Francis receives the wounds of Christ while praying on Mount La Verna.
What Happened
During a forty-day fast, Francis sees a seraphic crucifix and receives the marks of nails in hands and feet and a wound in the side. He hides the signs out of humility; they are witnessed at his death.
